10th Know India Programme (KIP)

The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, Government of India, as part of its on-going programme of associating the younger generation of the Indian Diaspora closely with India, has been organizing Internship/Orientation programmes for Diaspora Youth in the past and has till now organized eight such programmes. The Know India Programmes (KIP) provides a unique forum for students and young professionals of Indian origin to share their views, expectations and experience and bond closely with contemporary India. The programmes have been greatly appreciated by the participants. The 10th Programme (KIP) in the series is being planned for a period of 3 weeks and is expected to be held in December 2008- January 2009, in partnership with the Governments of Madhya Pradesh and Haryana. The proposed Programme will involve a total of three weeks stay in India for 40 participants consisting of Diaspora youth professionals and students of the age group of 18-26 years. A variety of programmes will be arranged in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, highlights of which are: calls on the dignitaries in Government, visits to places of cultural, rural and industrial interest, exposure to Indian media and Film Industry, Interaction with NGOS and /or organizations dealing with women affairs. Broad guidelines of the Programme are given below:

i. The programme is open to youth of Indian origin (excluding non-resident Indians) in the age group of 18-26 years as on the first day of the month in which the programme is expected to start.

ii. The candidates should either be studying in the under-graduate level or should have completed under-graduation or equivalent.

iii. They should be able to converse in English. (They should have studies English as a subject at the High School level or should have English as a medium of instruction fro under-graduate course)

iv. The participants will be provided the following hospitality/facilities in India: boarding/lodging in the State guest houses or budget hotels, internal travel as per the Programme, per diem allowance of Rs.100/- for out-of-pocket expense, one way economy class international airfare from the UAE to India will be reimbursable to them by Indian Embassy/Consulate General of India in the UAE afte their successful participation in the Programme.

v. The applicant should not have participated in any prvious KIP or Internship Programme for Diaspora Youth (IPDY).

vi. Application form for the Programme can be downloaded from http://knowindiaprogram.com and after completion can be submitted in the Information Section of either the Embassy of India, Abu Dhabi, or the Consulate General of India, Dubai
